Tour Details

Hiking is an outdoor activity which consists of walking in natural environments, often in mountainous or other scenic terrain. People often hike on hiking trails. It is such a popular activity that there are numerous hiking organizations worldwide. Studies have confirmed the health benefits of different types of hiking, including losing excess weight, decreasing hypertension, and improving mental health. The word hiking is understood in all English-speaking countries, but there are differences in usage.

Mt Batur
Join us for a sunrise trek to the summit of Mt.Batur (1717 meters) and experience the awesome beauty of an active volcano. Trekking in the cool, early morning darkness (torches, hiking sticks and wet weather gear supplied, if needed), we begin the one to two hour ascent (not difficult) to arrive in time to witness a glorious sunrise and experience the stunning morning views of the surrounding crater and lake.

This trek is a relatively easy climb and is suitable for most persons and children. It is one of the most attractive volcanoes in Indonesia and one of the easiest to climb. The sunrise, the majestic views of the lake and surrounding mountains in the morning and the rugged beauty of an active volcano make this trip a must for visitors to this fabled island.

Mt Agung
Trekking to the peak of the active volcano, Mt. Agung, Bali’s holiest and tallest mountain (3142 meters) takes four to five hours (eight – ten hours for the return journey). It is a somewhat difficult trek and requires a good level of fitness and some bravado, but is an extremely worthwhile and amazing spiritual experience.

Departing at 1 – 2 a.m. (head torches and wet weather gear supplied, if needed) after making an offering and prayer at the holy Pasar Agung temple, the highest in Bali, we begin the ascent of this impressive volcano to arrive in time to witness the most remarkable sunrise you will see in Bali and to enjoy the spectacular morning views of the neighboring islands of Lombok, Nusa Penida and the whole south and east of Bali. Trekking first through jungle (where you can see wildlife on the return journey) we pass the tree line and trek up the lava flows of the 1963 eruption enjoying the spectacular night views of Bali (the lights are amazing). After sunrise and making an offering and prayer on the summit of this holy mountain we enjoy a well deserved breakfast before beginning our descent.

Rice Paddy Walk
Join us on a walk of cultural, ecological, archaeological and natural discovery as we explore ancient ruins, lush jungle, traditional villages, local plantations and trek through rice paddies in the spectacular heartland of Bali. Our trek begins with a descent to the Elephant Cave temple complex (a number of ancient temples and reliefs dating from the Majopahit era (13th century). Trekking along the banks of large river, gurgling below, we pass through lush jungle area, a variety of fruit trees (local plantations) and pass numerous hidden temples and hermit sanctuaries (truly a photographers dream), whilst enjoying the sounds and sights of nature at its best.

Our experienced, English speaking guides will enlighten you with their knowledge of local mythology and point out the local flora (fruit and spice trees) and explain their role in Balinese society. We then trek into a local village where you can view, spectacular temples, local craftsmen at work and we visit a local school and orphanage before entering to the rice paddy section of our tour. Descending through the paddies to a large ancient relief carved into a cliff face we receive a blessing with holy water from a local priestess.

I loved this tour. Everything is will arranged and our guide made jokes the whole way up. Just a quick note, this hike is harder than I expected, make sure you wear good shoes and are in good physical condition.

Really nice guide and driver. The driver even bought us rain ponchos when the weather was bad. The trip was harder than I thought though, but doable for anyone who really wants it.
